RF microneedling or microneedling. Which treatment should you choose?
RF microneedling or microneedling?
RF microneedling and microneedling are very effective, modern treatments that help improve the look and condition of skin for both women and men. These treatments work by stimulating skin regeneration. After a course of treatments, your skin will look smoother, firmer, and more radiant.
Microneedling vs RF microneedling skin treatments
Aesthetics offer various treatments that improve skin health, rejuvenate, and reduce imperfections. 2 very popular treatments include microneedling and RF needling. Both treatments use microneedling technique, but the mechanism of action and treatment results are different. Which treatment is better for you depends on the individual skin needs.

What are microneedling and RF needling? Let’s compare these two treatments
MICRONEEDLING
Microneedling pen creates controlled micro injuries in the skin. These tiny punctures create microscopic channels that stimulate skin to regenerate itself. In addition, when we use products with active ingredients during the process, this allows those active ingredients to penetrate skin deeper, where they can actually work.
Products such as hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and peptides will be absorbed by the skin, when the same products applied in a form of creams just stay on the skin surface. This can effectively improve skin moisture, reduce fine lines, even out skin tone, or minimise acne breakouts or scars.
RF MICRONEEDLING
RF microneedling is an advanced cosmetic treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF). During the treatment, similar to microneedling, tiny gold coated micro needles are inserted into the skin, the difference is while they penetrate the skin, at the same time the radiofrequency waves are released. They heat the tissue at a specific depth, contracting the collagen fibers and increasing production of new collagen and elastin. This improves skin firmness and elasticity, reduce wrinkles, acne scars, and even stretch marks.
What are the differences between RF microneedling and microneedling treatments?
Both treatments are based on microneedling, but they are different in their mechanism of action and range of effects.
- Depth: RF microneedling works on deeper layers of the skin allowing a more intense stimulation of collagen.
- Purpose: Microneedling improves skin quality, texture, hydrates and rejuvenates, while RF microneedling additionally gives a lifting and firming effect.
- Downtime: After RF microneedling skin may feel slightly warmer and look red due to its additional thermal effect. So, for some clients the recovery time may take a little longer (e.g. a day longer).

What skin concerns do they help with?
MICRONEEDLING
- Moisturises and nourishes the skin
- Reduces fine lines and adds glow
- Improves skin tone
- Reduces the look of enlarged pores
- Reduces dark circles and bags under the eyes (with correct active products)
- Reduces dark spots and discolorations
RF MICRONEEDLING
- Smooths and reduces post-traumatic and post-surgical scars
- Reduces acne scars
- Reduces deeper wrinkles
- Thickens, plumps the skin and improves facial contour (jowls and saggy skin)
- Reduces the size of enlarged pores
Which treatment should you choose?
- Microneedling is recommended if you have dry, dehydrated skin and would like to improve skin moisture and elasticity, reduce fine lines, or you have some minor imperfections, acne or rosacea. This treatment is perfect if you would like to prevent skin ageing, boost collagen, add a glow if your skin lost its radiance, and improve uneven skin tone and lighten darker patches.
- RF microneedling is recommended for ageing skin with visible signs, such as loss of firmness or wrinkles. It is also excellent for reducing acne, post-surgical, or post-traumatic scars. It is effective for sagging skin, clients with drooping facial contour, or people experiencing loose skin after rapid weight loss.
Are both treatments suitable for men?
Certainly. Cosmetic treatments are not only reserved exclusively for women. More and more men choose skin treatments to improve their look and delay the skin ageing.
Microneedling as well as the RF microneedling are both excellent choice for men who want to:
- Improve skin elasticity,
- Reduce wrinkles and fine lines,
- Reduce scars from acne or injuries,
- Even out skin tone and texture,
- Get a healthy, well-groomed and fresher look.
The modern man takes care of himself. Good-looking skin always looks great on anyone and gives self-confidence at work and in personal life.
