WILL I BRUISE AFTER LIP FILLER TREATMENT?
Bruising after lip filler is hardly an aesthetic treatment complication. When injecting products with a needle, there’s always a risk of damaging a small blood vessel. We understand that nobody wants to leave an aesthetic clinic with bruises on their face or lips, so let us explain how to best prevent bruising after injectable treatments and minimise the ones that may show up.
BRUISING AFTER LIP AUGMENTATION WITH FILLER
Bruises after lip filler can look different for each client. Some people don’t bruise at all, where others bruise with almost every tiny injection.
Because the treatment is on the face, this makes it more difficult to hide.
More injections = greater risk of bruising. With treatments where more injections are required, the risk of getting a bruise is higher than during a procedure with less injections.

CAN TREATMENT WITH A CANNULA MINIMISE BRUISING AFTER LIP AUGMENTATION?
If the lip filler is injected with a cannula, will I avoid bruising?
In theory yes, there is less chances of bruising but in my opinion a cannula doesn’t give great results for lip augmentation. We need to consider the results we can achieve after the treatment, and these results will last long after the bruising disappears.
When injecting hyaluronic acid filler in the lips, I always use a needle, and not cannula. With the needle, we can get exceptional results and have much greater control over the amount and location of the filler, something that a cannula can never achieve.
HOW TO PREPARE BEFORE YOUR LIP FILLER TO REDUCE THE RISK OF BRUISING?
As mentioned earlier, bruising is normal during procedures involving injections. However, with some preparation when you know you’re prone to bruising, you can help to minimise these side effects.
For two weeks before your treatment, you can take supplements containing rutin or diosmin, these strengthen your blood vessels. Also, take vit C supplements or eat vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin C.
Avoid blood thinners like aspirin, omega oils etc. before your treatment.
WHAT TO DO WITH A BRUISE AFTER A COSMETIC PROCEDURE?
We can help the bruise to heal even 2 days earlier by using creams containing arnica or butcher’s broom. You can gently massage the cream in area. This will further stimulate circulation and slightly speed up the absorption of the cream.
WHAT CAN YOU DO AT HOME?
Soon after your lip filler treatment, before the bruising happened, you can apply cool compresses, it will sooth, reduce swelling and constricts blood vessels.
But if a bruise has formed, do the opposite. Apply a warm compress, to dilate the blood vessels, improve circulation, and promote faster healing and absorption of the bruise.

BRUISING AFTER LIP FILLER TREATMENT FAQs
Is bruising after lip fillers normal?
Bruising after lip augmentation is very common. It shouldn’t cause any concerns as it’s natural body’s response when a small blood vessel ruptures during the injection.
When will bruising after lip filler disappear?
How long does bruising after lip filler last? This is a very individual matter, for some people bruises are visible for a couple of days and for others it lasts for a week.
Bruising and swelling usually gets worse the next day after the treatment, and you can notice a gradual improvement after that.
How to hide bruises after lip filler?
Smaller bruises can be covered with a Pawpaw lip balm in peachy colour. This lip balm will almost completely conceal the bruise. It has a natural pinky peach shade and doesn’t look too strong or exaggerated, but is very effective in neutralising bluish and purple bruising on the lips.
