What is RF microneedling?

RF microneedling combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy. Fine needles penetrate the skin while radiofrequency energy delivers controlled heat beneath the surface, stimulating collagen production and improving skin quality.

When RF Microneedling treatment isn’t suitable?

RF microneedling isn’t suitable for everyone. Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided depending on your medical history, medications and skin condition.

This can include situations such as:

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Active infection or inflammation in the treatment area
• Certain uncontrolled medical conditions
• Some autoimmune conditions
• Certain bleeding or clotting disorders
• Some medications that affect healing or bleeding
• Active cancer or recent cancer treatment
• Pacemakers or certain implanted electronic devices
• A history of keloid scarring

This isn’t a complete list. Your medical history and medication should always be discussed before treatment.

What can RF microneedling help with?

Does RF microneedling hurt?

At Beauty Bar we apply a topical numbing cream before treatment for around 30 minutes.

You may feel very slight pressure, pinching or heat during the treatment, but most clients find it manageable. Sensitivity varies depending on the area being treated and the pain threshold.

Is RF microneedling suitable for men?

Yes. RF microneedling is suitable for both men and women.

It can be a good option if you want to improve skin firmness, texture, pores or scarring without changing the shape or features of your face.

We often treat men at Beauty Bar and next to skin boosters and botox, this is one of the most popular treatments among men, as it improves the look of skin without any visible changes to their features.

When will I see results?

You may notice some initial improvement as the skin settles, but the more important changes happen gradually.

Your skin continues producing new collagen after treatment, so firmness and texture can continue improving over the following weeks and months.

The timescale varies between people and depends on the condition being treated, age, and lifestyle.

Can RF microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Sometimes. RF microneedling may form part of a wider skin rejuvenation plan and can be combined with treatments such as skin boosters or mesotherapy where appropriate.

However, treatments aren’t automatically combined just because they can be. The condition of your skin and the timing between treatments need to be considered.

Is RF microneedling the same as microneedling?

No. Traditional microneedling uses needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. RF microneedling combines this with radiofrequency energy, adding controlled heat to the treatment. It is more effective as it combines 2 anti ageing treatments in one.

How often can I have RF microneedling?

Treatment intervals depend on the area, settings and reason for treatment. A course is commonly spaced several weeks apart, rather than treating the same area too frequently. Ideally the treatment should be repeated no sooner than 4 weeks but not later than 6 weeks after your previous treatment. Course could be repeated once or twice a year.

Can RF microneedling be used on the neck?

Yes, the neck can be treated when appropriate. The settings and treatment approach are adjusted because the skin is different from facial skin.

How long does RF microneedling appointment take?

Treatment time depends on the area being treated. You’ll also need time beforehand for consultation, cleansing and application of numbing cream. Usually it takes 45 minutes to around an hour, plus 30 minutes for the numbing cream.

What happens after your RF microneedling treatment

Your skin is likely to be red and warm immediately afterwards and may feel similar to mild sunburn. In rare occasions you may also have some swelling or sensitivity.

The visible redness usually settles over the following day or several days, depending on how your skin responds.

Your skin then begins its longer healing and collagen-remodelling process. This is why the improvement is gradual rather than immediate.

You’ll be given specific aftercare advice and we’ll discuss when your next treatment should be scheduled.

Is RF microneedling used for the face and body?

RF microneedling isn’t limited to facial treatments. Depending on your skin and what you want to improve, treatment can be considered for areas such as the:

• Whole face
• Neck
• Décolletage
• Abdomen
• Arms
• Thighs
• Knees
• Other areas with suitable skin laxity or texture concerns

Not every area is suitable for every person, so this is something we discuss before treatment.

How many RF microneedling treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on condition of your skin, age, and what you’re hoping to achieve.

For general preventative skin rejuvenation, a course of 3 treatments is often recommended, rather than relying on one treatment. Your individual treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.

I wouldn’t promise a fixed number of sessions without seeing your skin first.

Is there downtime after RF microneedling?

Immediately afterwards, the skin can look red and feel warm, similar to mild sunburn. Some people also experience swelling or sensitivity, but this is extremely rare.

For most people, the initial redness settles within a day or several days, although this can vary depending on the treatment intensity and area.

Morpheus8 is a specific RF microneedling device/brand. RF microneedling is the broader treatment category, so not every RF microneedling treatment is Morpheus8.

Can RF microneedling treat acne scars?

It can help improve the look and texture of certain types of acne scarring. The response depends on the type and depth of the scars, so an assessment is important.

Can RF microneedling tighten loose skin?

It can improve skin firmness and mild laxity by stimulating collagen and remodelling within the treated tissue. It isn’t a surgical facelift and won’t produce the same degree of lifting as surgery. It gives great results as a preventative treatment.

What happens during an RF microneedling treatment?

1. First, we’ll discuss your skin and the area you want to treat.
2. A topical anaesthetic is then applied and left on for approximately 30 minutes. The skin is cleansed and prepared before treatment.
3. A sterile cartridge containing fine needles is attached to the handpiece. The needle depth and RF energy are adjusted according to the treatment area and your individual needs.
4. The needles enter the skin, radiofrequency energy is delivered at the selected depth.
5. Afterwards, we will apply a cream or serum so it can be absorbed better through the created micro channels, and you’ll be given your aftercare instructions.

Can I have RF microneedling if I have had other aesthetic treatments?

Often yes, but the timing of the treatment matters. Tell me about any recent aesthetic treatments so that I can advise you on appropriate spacing.
