How to avoid semi-permanent eyebrows going blue and how to correct them?

How to Avoid and Correct Blue Semi-Permanent Eyebrows

Why Do Semi-Permanent Eyebrows Turn Blue?

Blue semi-permanent eyebrows – it sounds odd, but it’s a fairly common issue that can happen if the pigment isn’t selected or applied correctly. So why do some semi-permanent eyebrows turn blue, how can this be avoided, and if it happens to you, how can it be fixed?

Why Do Semi-Permanent Eyebrows Turn Blue?

The most common reason eyebrows turn blue after semi-permanent makeup is the wrong choice of pigment colour. Even with high-quality pigments, if the shade isn’t properly matched to your skin tone, it can heal into a bluish hue. This happens because our skin has undertones that interact with the pigment. A cool or black pigment applied to someone with cool skin undertones, for example, will often turn blue after healing.

Using black pigment is a major culprit. Black should only be used for eyeliner, as it tends to heal into a navy or blue shade. Similarly, pigments that are too cool for the client’s skin tone can lead to the same result.

How to Choose the Right Pigment for Your Skin

Choosing the correct pigment requires a combination of experience and knowledge. We will consider your skin tones, undertones, and Fitzpatrick skin type when selecting a pigment mix. The same pigment will heal differently on different people, so trusting your technician’s expertise is essential.

It’s also important not to insist on cool-toned pigments if your specialist recommends otherwise. Listening to professional advice can prevent undesirable results.

Methods to Correct Blue Semi-Permanent Eyebrows

If your semi-permanent eyebrows have turned blue, there are two main ways to correct them:

1. Neutralising with a warm pigment: This involves layering a warm-toned pigment over the blue to balance the coolness. However, this method often requires multiple treatments (two or three sessions) and may not provide a long-lasting solution since the blue pigment remains in the skin and can resurface over time. This technique isn’t suitable for people with a very dense coverage of blue pigment.

2. Laser removal: This is often the preferred method for addressing blue eyebrows. Laser removal fades the blue pigment, making it less dense and allowing for a fresh, properly chosen pigment to be applied afterward. Laser removal offers a more permanent fix compared to neutralisation alone.

Preventing Blue Eyebrows

To avoid having blue semi-permanent eyebrows, always choose a highly experienced technician who can show you a portfolio of their work and results. Healed work demonstrates how the pigment will look long-term, which is more important than just seeing freshly done work.

Additionally, avoid getting semi-permanent makeup done when your skin is tanned, as a tan can interfere with proper pigment selection.

5 things you need to know before getting a semi-permanent lip tattoo

5 Essential Things You Need to Know Before Getting a Semi-Permanent Lip Tattoo

What is Semi-Permanent Lip Tattooing?

A semi-permanent lip tattoo is a subtle and effective way to enhance the natural beauty of your lips without the need for daily touch-ups. If you’re tired of constantly reapplying lipstick or want to correct uneven lip colour, this treatment might be perfect for you. Before booking your appointment, here are five things you should know:

What is Semi-Permanent Lip Tattooing?

A semi-permanent lip tattoo helps to define the natural contour of your lips, correct asymmetry, and enhance lip colour. It’s a non invasive and affordable option. The goal is to enhance your lips subtly, not create a bold, heavy look. The chosen shade should complement your natural lip colour and skin tone, offering a polished and natural result.

This treatment can be combined with lip fillers to further enhance volume if desired. For the best results, it’s recommended to choose a shade that’s close to your natural lip colour, or slightly darker or brighter. Contouring techniques, using two shades, can also add dimension, with darker pigments applied near the lip line and lighter colors toward the center.

Consultation and Procedure

A thorough consultation is essential before the treatment. At this appointment, you will undergo a patch test for pigment and numbing cream, complete a medical questionnaire to rule out contraindications, and discuss your desired results.

On the day of the procedure, we will outline your lips, ensuring you approve the shape and colour before beginning. The full process, including applying the numbing cream and creating the template, can take up to 2.5 hours. Afterward, expect your semi-permanent makeup to last between 2 to 5 years, depending on your skin type and aftercare routine.

How to Prepare for Your Lip Tattoo Appointment

Preparation is key for a successful treatment. If you’ve had a cold sore (herpes simplex virus) outbreak before, you should consider taking antiviral medication a few days before the procedure, as the virus can be reactivated by the treatment.

Two days before your appointment, avoid alcohol, aspirin, and ibuprofen (they thin the blood), as well as antibiotics for two weeks before the treatment. But do not discontinue any medication without your doctor consent. Smoking can also slow down the healing process, so it’s best to avoid it before and after your procedure.

During the healing time, you’ll need to apply an aftercare ointment regularly to keep your lips moisturised. Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and getting your lips wet with tap water. Drinking through a straw can help you manage the healing period.

Aftercare for Semi-Permanent Lip Tattoos

After the treatment, your lips will appear darker and more intense than the final result. This is normal, and after about five days, the colour will begin to settle into the target shade.

It’s essential to treat your lips gently during the healing phase. Avoid rubbing, soaking, or using any cosmetics not recommended by your aftercare instructions, until fully healed. Keep your lips moisturised with the recommended ointment.

Schedule a follow-up appointment in 4 to 6 weeks for a touch-up, ensuring the best possible long-term results.

Who Should Avoid Lip Tattoo Treatment?

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for a semi-permanent lip tattoo. Here are some contraindications to be aware of:

  • Cancer patients currently undergoing chemotherapy: Lip tattoos can only be performed at least six months after your final chemotherapy session, with your doctor’s approval.
  • Uncontrolled diabetes: If your diabetes is not managed or is advanced, you will need a doctor’s approval before proceeding.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid the treatment until after their pregnancy or nursing period.
  • Psoriasis on the treatment site, active herpes, or those currently on steroid medications should wait until these conditions are resolved before undergoing the procedure.

If you have hypersensitivity to pain, this treatment may not be recommended for you.

Reconstruction of the eyebrows after cancer and chemotherapy

Eyebrows After Cancer and Chemotherapy

Why Eyebrows Matter - Confidence After Cancer

Chemotherapy can be a life-saving treatment, but it often comes with difficult side effects, including hair loss. For many, especially women, the loss of eyebrows is particularly hard to cope with. Eyebrows are a crucial element of facial expression, they frame the eyes and define the face. Losing them can significantly impact self-esteem.

Why Eyebrows Matter – Confidence After Cancer

While it may seem like a small detail, eyebrows play a big role in how we feel about ourselves. After chemotherapy, many women struggle with the loss of their natural brows, which can make them feel less confident or attractive. Fortunately, semi-permanent makeup offers a solution, allowing women to reconstruct their eyebrows and regain their sense of self.

How Semi-Permanent Makeup Can Help After Chemotherapy

Semi-permanent makeup is a fantastic option for those looking to recreate the appearance of natural eyebrow hairs. This cosmetic tattooing technique allows people to optically reconstruct their eyebrows, giving them the appearance of real hair without the need to pencil them in every day.

By opting for semi-permanent eyebrow makeup, you’ll save time, avoid smudges, and feel more confident knowing your brows are always in place. This simple treatment can make a world of difference, helping you to focus on healing and feeling good about your appearance.

When to Get Semi-Permanent Makeup, Before or After Chemo?

Many women choose to get semi-permanent eyebrows before starting chemotherapy. Having the treatment done in advance allows your brows to fully heal, so when you begin losing your natural eyebrow hairs, the change is less dramatic. The tattooed brows provide a consistent frame for your face throughout the treatment process.

If you didn’t have the procedure done beforehand, you can still undergo eyebrow reconstruction post-chemotherapy. However, it’s important to allow your body to fully recover before undergoing the treatment. We recommend waiting at least six months after your final chemotherapy session to ensure your immune system is strong enough to handle the procedure.

Micro-Pigmentation for Eyebrow Reconstruction Post-Chemotherapy

After chemotherapy, micro-pigmentation is a safe and effective way to reconstruct your eyebrows. This technique uses fine, hair-like strokes of pigment to create a realistic and natural look. We often suggest a hair stroke method or hair strokes with subtle shading for the most authentic results.

Before booking your appointment, it’s important to check your white blood cell count with your doctor to ensure your body is ready for the procedure. Typically, a count between 2,000–3,000 leukocytes/mm³ is considered healthy for this type of treatment.

Aftercare Tips for Your New Semi-Permanent Eyebrows

Proper aftercare is crucial to ensure your new eyebrows heal beautifully. After your treatment, you’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions, but here are some key tips to keep in mind:

  • Avoid wearing makeup on your brows for at least a week.
  • For two weeks, steer clear of swimming pools, tanning beds, and spa treatments to avoid irritation and infection.
  • Keep the area clean and moisturised with the products recommended by us.

Following these simple steps will ensure that your new brows stay looking fresh and natural for as long as possible.

What to do when semi permanent make up goes wrong

Semi-Permanent Eyebrow Correction - Restoring Confidence at Beauty Bar

The Importance of Choosing the Right Semi-Permanent Makeup Artist

At Beauty Bar, we often get asked if we can correct poorly done semi-permanent eyebrows, and unfortunately, in many cases, the damage can’t be fully repaired. This is something that truly saddens us, as it can have a long-lasting impact on someone’s confidence and self-esteem.

We’ve seen an increasing number of clients coming in with bad semi-permanent makeup procedures that were poorly executed by inexperienced or unqualified technicians. These situations can be frustrating and disheartening, which is why we emphasise the importance of doing your research before choosing an artist.

The Importance of Choosing the Right Semi-Permanent Makeup Artist

Semi-permanent makeup is an investment, not just in your appearance, but in your confidence and comfort. That’s why it’s crucial to select a reputable technician with a proven track record. Checking reviews, viewing a portfolio, and ensuring your chosen artist has the right qualifications can save you from unnecessary stress and disappointment down the line. In many cases, poorly executed procedures cannot be fully corrected, so it’s best to get it right the first time.

Natalie's Journey - From Unhappy Brows to Beautiful Confidence

Our lovely client Natalie is a perfect example of what can happen when semi-permanent makeup goes wrong. She came to us unhappy with her previous eyebrow procedure, feeling frustrated and self-conscious. Her experience was a real-life example of what everyone fears – badly done semi-permanent brows that were asymmetrical and didn’t suit her face or style.

We were able to work with Natalie to correct her brows, using techniques to reshape and recolour them into something she loves. The transformation not only restored her eyebrows but also brought back her confidence. Natalie’s story highlights the importance of choosing a skilled and experienced artist. We’re so proud to have been part of her journey back to loving her look.

Why Bad Eyebrow Procedures Are Difficult to Fix

Unfortunately, not all semi-permanent eyebrow work can be corrected. Poorly applied pigment that’s placed too deep or in the wrong shade can be incredibly hard to fix without laser removal or multiple correction sessions. This is why prevention – by selecting a trusted and experienced artist from the beginning – is key.

How to Ensure You Get the Best Results with Semi-Permanent Makeup

To avoid these kinds of issues, it’s essential to take your time when choosing a technician. Look for a portfolio of healed results (not just fresh work), read reviews, and consult with your artist beforehand to discuss your expectations and ask questions. Remember, great semi-permanent makeup is about subtle enhancement, not drastic changes.

What Natalie said

“I have been visiting Justyna since July 2018 for eyelash extension. I was completely against extension and haven’t looked back since my first set of lashes largely due to the fact of Justyna’s professionalism and knowledge.

On my second appointment, I remember Justyna telling me about all of the other treatments she offered including semi-permanent eyebrows. I was excited about this as I had my eyebrows done previously but they were faded and had gaps. Straightaway Justyna advised that to do my eyebrows I would need to have the old colour removed. This was something I didn’t want to do.

A few months later Justyna offered me to be a correction model. I was delighted. When I came for my appointment and unbeknown to me – considering I see my face every day. My eyebrows were wonky! One higher than the other and one thinner than the other! I cannot explain how odd they were.

Justyna wasn’t sure if she could proceed as they were so wonky. It was then she decided to freehand draw my new brows and see if she could get the shape and make them not so odd. All the way through checking I was happy with them.

Once Justyna and I were happy with the shape we went ahead. I was apprehensive at first as I did not have any numbing cream on, that said I didn’t want to take the drawing off. Justyna reassured me that I would be ok. I went through the whole procedure with no numbing cream.

I can say 100% that not having the numbing cream was absolutely ok. It is not painful at all and in fact, Justyna said it will help to keep the colour in by not having the anaesthetic cream.

When I saw the finished brows I nearly cried they were actually what I wanted and not odd! They are not identical but one is not higher than the other and they are the same thickness. The colour match was spot on! They look natural but ready to go! Not a reddish tone.

I highly recommend semi-permanent eyebrows! You can just get up and be ready for the day.

I got my original brows from a well-known beauty shop 3 years back and now from going to Justyna, I would not go anywhere else. I was talked through every step, how colour reacts and how to get the best results. The compliments just keep coming for my new and improved brows.

Thank you Justyna for being the perfectionist that you are.”

What is Semi-permanent Makeup?

What Is Semi-Permanent Makeup? Everything You Need to Know

The History of Permanent Makeup Tattooing

Semi-permanent makeup is an innovative cosmetic procedure that enhances facial features and corrects imperfections through the precise tattoo application of pigments. Whether you want perfectly shaped eyebrows, defined lips, or subtle eyeliner, semi-permanent makeup provides a long-lasting solution that won’t smudge or wash off.

The History of Permanent Makeup Tattooing

Where does permanent makeup come from? For centuries, people have sought ways to enhance their appearance. Early forms of body modification included piercings, painting, and tattooing – dating back thousands of years. The Chinese were among the first to use bamboo sticks and plant-based dyes for tattooing 2000 years ago.

Today, semi-permanent makeup has evolved with advanced tools like needle cartridges that prevent contamination, providing a safe and precise way to enhance your features.

Why Choose Semi-Permanent Makeup?

Semi-permanent makeup is perfect for anyone looking to simplify their daily routine. It can correct asymmetry, add definition, and create a polished look that lasts.

  • Eyebrows: Techniques range from natural hair strokes to soft ombre effects.
  • Lips: Create more defined lips with colour that mimics lipstick.
  • Eyeliner: Add subtle or bold definition to your eyes.

This treatment is particularly beneficial for:

  • Busy people who want to reduce time spent on makeup.
  • Swimmers, gym-goers, or those with oily skin.
  • People who struggle with makeup application or have allergies to traditional products.
  • Those who have lost hair due to chemotherapy.

How Semi-Permanent Makeup Works - A Step-by-Step Process

Consultation: The first step is a brief consultation where we assess your suitability for the treatment and conduct a patch test to rule out allergies to pigments or anaesthetics.

Initial Treatment: During the main session (up to 2.5 hours), we discuss your desired look, choose the right colours, and carefully map out the shape. Disposable needles are used, and we apply a topical anaesthetic to ensure your comfort.

Touch-Up Appointment: 4 to 6 weeks after the initial session, a touch-up visit fine-tunes the results to perfection.

On average, semi-permanent makeup lasts between 2 to 5 years, depending on your skin type and lifestyle.

Caring for Your Semi-Permanent Tattoo After Treatment

After the procedure, it’s normal to experience mild irritation or swelling, which typically subsides quickly. While the skin heals, you may notice light peeling, but it won’t scab. Proper aftercare is essential:

Gently wash the treated area and apply a moisturising cream as instructed.

For the first two weeks, avoid steam rooms, swimming, and excessive sun exposure for six weeks.

We provide all clients with detailed written aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing.

Finding a Trustworthy Semi-Permanent Makeup Artist

Choosing the right semi-permanent makeup artist is critical. Always select a certified and insured technician with a portfolio of their work, showcasing both fresh results and healed outcomes. Healed results reveal the true quality of the artist’s work, as any mistakes – such as pigment migration, greying, or patchiness – become apparent once the skin has fully healed.

A professional artist will also require a health form and patch test before beginning the treatment to ensure there are no contraindications or allergic reactions to the pigments or anaesthetics used.
